General Duties
It is the duty of the cityclerk to perform the general office/clerical work, secretarial duties, for the city council and the municipal corporation of the city.
The cityclerk is responsible for recording the official minutes of the city council, preparing city council meeting agendas, maintaining and filing city correspondence and official records as directed by the city council and/or the city manager; processing, recording, filing and advertising ordinances, resolutions, legal notices, and bids for municipal purchases; maintaining files for violations of city ordinances; and furnishing material for local elections and maintaining receipt of election results.
The cityclerk is also responsible for providing notary services, issuing licenses and permits, maintaining and filing official documents for the sale of cemetery lots, and receiving and filing bonds and insurance policies relating to municipally issued contracts. The cityclerk is responsible for maintaining, processing and responding to questions regarding employee insurance and retirement matters. The cityclerk further performs related work as required by law or ordinance.
